Service Description
Step into the vibrant world of Samba de Gafieira, a joyful Brazilian partner dance that blends Afro-Brazilian rhythms with European ballroom traditions. Originating in Rio de Janeiro, this style is known for its smooth, playful energy and deep cultural roots. In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn foundational steps, rhythm, coordination, and partner connection in a fun and supportive environment. The class also explores musicality and the unique character of the dance, with influences from tango, salsa, swing, and Samba no Pé. Led by Armando Duarte, an experienced choreographer and educator specializing in Brazilian dance, you’ll gain insight into both the movement and the cultural traditions behind it—making the experience as meaningful as it is fun. He’ll be joined by Ellen Welch, a professional dancer, choreographer, and instructor who has taught and performed across Iowa, bringing an engaging and supportive energy to the class. No partner or experience is needed. We rotate partners throughout class, making it easy to meet others, build confidence, and enjoy the social side of dance. Course fee is per person.
